Monochrome is something that I never seem to fall out of love with, combine that with chevrons and geometric prints and I'm as happy as very happy thing.

Dog wall is back, but this time with cats!

What a beaut huh?  Many, many years ago MozzyMr and I started a collection of pet pictures, mostly painted, photographed or created by the owners and mostly awful.  Back in the dingy cave that was our first flat together we proudly displayed our collection and called it 'dog wall', dog wall started with this delightful fella (we call him Prawno):

But soon we were coming across amazing cat pictures too!  When we moved to our current house dog wall was shoved on top of the wardrobe in the box it had been packed in and not until today's miserable, rainy day did it get unpacked, dusted off and put back up in the spare room/office.  Huh huh huh, guests who stay are such lucky people to have these wonderful pictures to gaze upon, pictures that actually gaze back!  Sweet dreams lovely guests, sweet dreams!

Allotment geekery

Today we took a knife to one of our pumpkins, this is a big commitment.  We'll be cooking, eating, freezing and pondering the many ways to cook pumpkin for many days to come.  First up, soup and roasted pumpkin slices.  Nom.

Ermahgerd!  My brother bought me a Kindle Paperwhite for my Birthday and it arrived today! Hazaar!

First book on it? The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.  I'll let you know how it goes...

Trouble

Excuse the terrible photos but beasty doesn't sit still long enough to take a good picture.  In fact she spends a lot of her time getting into trouble; climbing curtains, ripping up loo roll and getting it stuck in her collar, sitting on the toaster (huh???), drinking whatever drink you don't rigorously guard, batting you in the face, sitting in the bathroom sink, or having a whinge to be fed ALL THE TIME.

But she'll also come up to you and lick your knee, or loves to play or mews in such a way that it sounds like an 80's telephone.  So not all bad then.

A month of reading

1. The Hippopotamus by Stephen Fry

I really enjoyed this book, Fry's love of writing shines through.  Plus MozzyMr told me about the time he was in the car with MozzyMa and our Jim, they were listening to the audio book of The Hippopotamus when the descriptions got a bit... um... fruity?  I imagine the three of them cringed their way to Christmas!

2. Moranthology by Caitlin Moran

I was ALWAYS going to love this book, a Birthday present from my friend Katy, Caitlin Moran is just a whole heap of awesome, and when the first chapter has this quote:

"There's a lot of Sherlock love in here.  In many ways, this book might as well be called 'Deduce THIS, Sexlock Holmes!' with a picture of me licking his meerschaum, cross-eyed and screaming."

I was hooked.  I'm ashamed to say that really the only time I actually laugh out loud is when an animal falls over or a cat loses it's dignity, that sort of thing, but this book has had me LOLing with the best of them.  If you don't go and read this book you're a fool, a damned fool I tell you!

3. Moranthology by Caitlin Moran

Yes that's right, I finished the book and flipped straight back to the beginning and started reading it again.  Moran isn't all about licking Sherlock and screaming, she writes about David Cameron and his resemblance to 'a camp gammon robot, a C-3PO of ham', paying taxes, internet trolls, hating Lola of Charlie and Lola and the closing of public libraries:

"Unless the government has developed an exit strategy for the cuts, and insisted councils not sell closed properties, by the time we get back to 'normal' again, our Victorian and post-war and 1960s red-brick boxy libraries will be coffee shops, Lidls and pubs.  No new libraries will be built to replace them.  These libraries will be lost for ever.

And, in their place, we will have a thousand more public spaces where you are simply the money in your pocket, rather than the hunger in your heart.  Kids - poor kids - will never know the fabulous, benign quirk of self-esteem of walking into 'their' library and thinking, 'I have read 60 per cent of the books in here.  I am awesome'.  Libraries that stayed open during the Blitz will be closed by budgets.

Glitter Love

Yep!  I've been thinking about Christmas *grins*, and even as I type that sentence I can feel Mozzy's side of the family looking at me with disbelief.  I don't think they've come across someone who throws themselves towards the warm embrace of Christmas quite like me.   Poor Mozzy has to endure the Christmas decorations from the second weekend in December, for most of the holiday season you will find him grumpily trying to remove glitter from his beard.  Anyway this is a little collection of glitter to get you in the mood...

Allotment Geekery

So autumn is here and when we got up this morning to go to the car boot sale it was cold, so cold that no one really bothered to come sell their tat, how very grr.  The prospect of an afternoon on the allotment in the cold was not very appealing so layers were the order of the day including my epic mustard coloured scarf, when held aloft it's taller than me and is the best thing to keep warm.  Did I mention I made it?

Of course when we got there it rained and I had to take shelter in the shed with the massive clumps of mud on my wellies that I'd collected along the way...

A view up the path, our allotment is on the left (you can't see it in this photo) and you can see the polytunnel where we have a plot.  I love that there is a guy who has decorated his shed with old skool Kentucky Fried Chicken shop awnings!

This is what it is all about, we grew those leeks, and those chilli's and we made autumnal soup...

..... included in the soup is butternut squash, we grew that, carrots, we didn't grow them, potatoes, we grew them.  I haven't included a photo of the finished whizzed up soup because I can't pretend it looks like anything other than puke.  Tasted good though.
